Coach ,

We continue our look at the Top 25 and their coaching staffs. Today we put the spotlight on Tulane and what they do to train their players both on and off the field. Coach Jeremiah Johnson has today’s breakdown for us

Green Wave Season Preview Capsule

Tulane is looking forward to improving their defense for this upcoming fall and how they are going to do that is through their secondary. They were 47th overall in total defense and are looking to improve. With their offense getting better and better Tulane feels great for the upcoming season this fall.

Teaching

Josh Christian-Young is the safeties coach for Tulane and values the teaching aspect of his job. As you get deeper into the season, don’t discount the value of showing great performance on video.

What was certainly a motivator early season can still make an impact now late in the season. Coach Christian-Young incorporates this into his coaching. He explains how he uses video every day here

Ball Drills

Coach Christian-Young believes strongly in teaching ball skills. It starts with the premise that kids do not throw the ball around enough, especially deep balls. He trains this skill with drills to correct that deficit. He illustrates those here

Skill Acquisition

Tulane Strength Coach Kurt Hester takes a big role in developing players in the weight room but also in skill acquisition.

One aspect that Coach Hester takes pride in training is vision skills.  If you follow him on Twitter, you’ve seen the Tulane players doing this training. He gives an overview here

Tulane definitely has focused on aspects of their development that have proven successful. It will be fun to watch the progress they make in 2023.
