Coaching Strategies from the Pre Season Top Teams: Today #25-#21

The first pre-season top 25 list was shared by PFF in April. 24 of those top 25 teams have a coach or multiple coaches who have shared their football knowledge on CoachTube.
This week we will take a look at how the Top 25 is shaping up to start the season and learn something from the coaches of each team.
Today we will focus on #25 through #21. Overall 53 clinics from coaches of the top 25 teams are available to learn from on CoachTube.
#25.) Oregon
The Ducks hired Dan Lanning and hope to get quick results from the man who orchestrated Georgia's championship defense last season.
Coach Lanning shared some pressures at the Louisiana Football Coaches Association Clinic. In his presentation, Coach Lanning jumped right into the Oregon defense.
He breaks down simulated pressures, and how they coach the blitz and techniques. He demonstrates plays and techniques from the line, the field, and down to the split safety play giving a complete overview of pressure paths and the defensive game of the Oregon Pressures and Sims

Oregon has been known for decades for its offense. Now Coach Lanning looks to bring the Duck Defense to the top as well.
#24.) Ole Miss
The Rebels look to keep the momentum they’ve developed going. They’ve had one of the top-performing offenses in college football and their defense plays complementary football.
Offensive Coordinator Charlie Weis, Jr spoke on the Rebel RPO Game at Lauren’s First & Goal Clinic sharing how they attack multiple levels with the RPO to put defenders in conflict and create the explosive plays they are known for.

Defensive Coordinator Chris Partridge has presented at Lauren’s First and Goal Clinic two years in a row sharing their 3rd Down Bracket Coverage and the details on Safety Play.
Coach Partridge believes it’s important to teach players to transition their minds when playing multiple coverages. He explains how this works for a player who will both flat foot in quarters as well as peddles for depth in one high position (click on image for video):
#23.) Houston
Dana Holgerson brought his Air Raid-based offense to Houston. Clayton Tune returns at quarterback after throwing for 3,546 yards with 30 touchdowns last fall for a 12-team Cougar team that won 11 straight. The Cougars are a favorite to win the ACC
Coach Holgorsen shared his knowledge of the Mesh concept in his presentation at the Texas HS Coach Association Convention.
He runs an efficient, high percentage play offense, leaning on Air Raid concepts like the Mesh.
His goal is to get 5-6 yards a play, paired with their larger receiving core and hybrid tight ends to open up the passing game. Coach Holgorsen dives into game film of Mesh in the video below (click image for video):

#22.) Tennessee
The Vols showed great promise for the future in Josh Heupel's first season, winning seven games behind an offense that ranked top 10 nationally.
Offensive Line Coach Glen Elarbee presented on the Tempo Run Game and Counter at Lauren’s First & Goal.
The best teams take nothing for granted and coach every details. A big part of speeding things up is the in-game mechanics of their players to get lined up and snap the ball ASAP. He explains how they do it in this video (click on image for video):
#21.) Wisconsin
While they may not win the Big Ten, they should be a top team in the West Division. The Badgers ranked No. 1 on Defense nationally last season in total yards allowed, but they did graduate a significant amount of experience. Will their hard-nosed running game be aided by the ability to get the ball downfield? If so they should be in the Top 25 all season.
Unfortunately, we did not have Wisconsin represented at any of our clinics this off season. Defensive Coordinator Jim Leonhard did join the Coach & Coordinator Podcast for the Home Team Series.
