Sark’s 'All Gas, No Brakes' Approach

Coach -

There's high expectations in Texas this season, and it's built around a culture that Coach Sarkisian put in place when he arrived. The Longhorns are ready to capitalize on the strong foundation and make a run at the National Championship. Let's take a look at what the season holds and Sark's 'All Gas, No Brakes' approach.

Season Preview Capsule

Texas, once a sputtering Big 12 afterthought, has rapidly transformed into a SEC-caliber contender. The Longhorns' shockingly swift ascent from mediocrity to national prominence is a testament to the program's commitment to talent acquisition and development.

While their playoff semifinal loss to Washington was a setback, it may prove to be a valuable learning experience. With a loaded roster, a dynamic offense, and a defense that's poised to dominate, Texas is undeniably a force to be reckoned with. However, the challenges of the SEC, particularly the daunting task of facing Georgia, will test the Longhorns' mettle.

The road to a potential College Football Playoff berth is fraught with obstacles, but the foundation for sustained success is undeniably in place. The question now is whether Texas can capitalize on its momentum and consistently perform at an elite level.

Texas's Strengths

Offensive:

  • Strong Quarterback Play (Ewers and potentially Manning)
  • Adaptable Offense (passing and rushing attack)
  • Talented Offensive Line with NFL potential
  • 1-2 punch in the backfield (Baxter and Blue)

Defensive:

  • One of the nation's best run defenses
  • Veteran Linebacking Corps
  • Improved Secondary with Mukuba's arrival
  • Deep and talented Defensive Line

Stepping aside from the X’s and O’s, Texas Coach Steve Sarkisian brings a clinic on Program development and in recent years I am not sure there is a Coach more worthy of bringing this topic to you in college football.

Texas football was not running at the same caliber it had in the Mack Brown days or anything prior to that for that matter. But, there was a shift when Sark came in and it was evident last year when Texas saw its first qualification in the playoff era. It now deals with a harder road to get there through the SEC but with more spots available. Time will tell how this pans out for the Longhorns but, one thing's for sure they are going to attack it.

Video: Communication

One thing that is clear the more you hear these coaches talk about their programs is this. Elite programs communicate better than anyone else, whether that be on the field or between coach and player or any other circumstance

In a society that is growing to not communicate as effectively due to the social media era and the short and not so concise conversations we all grow to have; there has to be an anomaly in your program and you have to find a way to elevate the way in which everyone throughout your program learns to communicate for both on the field and off the field purposes.

Nevertheless, an attacking mentality over a responsive one seems to be a mainstay in programs like these. The more energy and excitement you can generate for the athletes to feed off of in a normal setting is a big deal. Especially in the nature that should wins or anything else come along that only feeds into the energy and excitement of the team. This is contagious and it becomes an easy way to pull that 80% up if any of you remember Urban Meyer’s 10/80/10 rule.

At the end of the day though those things are all great and they do feed into the culture but, you have to establish some defining qualities of your program. What do you want this energy and all these things you are building to be directed toward?

In some cases you want a team that's on edge, tough or something else of that nature and you may be basing that off a really good defense. In others, you want a ball protecting, fast paced attack that is disciplined, conditioned and has a natural understanding of each other and has a deeper connection that just seems to create that much more effective timing on offense.

Whatever it may be, you have to decide and lead your young men in that direction!
