Coach -
Night 1 of the State Champions Symposium kicked off with a powerful message: culture wins — when it's built intentionally, lived out daily, and reinforced by the whole program.

Here’s what you missed from three state champion coaches who live it every day:
🔥 John Merritt - Head Coach, De Smet Jesuit (2024 Missouri 6A State Champs)
"Our culture is built on trust — and that doesn’t mean just between players. It means coaches trusting players, and players knowing we’ll be honest, even when it’s hard."
"We don’t just talk leadership. We create it. Every senior leads a part of the team, even if they don’t start."

🔥 Trevor Hudson - Head Coach, American Canyon (2024 California 5A State Champs)
"Culture isn’t complicated. It’s what you tolerate. And we don’t tolerate less than full effort, respect, and brotherhood."
"We use our core values as filters — if something doesn’t align, we don’t do it. That keeps us focused and unified."
🔥 Shawn Coury - Head Coach, Pinecrest Academy (2024 Georgia GAPPS AA State Champs)
"We celebrate effort. Not just touchdowns. That’s how we built a culture where every kid knows they matter."
"You can’t fake culture. Kids know what’s real. You either live it, or they’ll expose it."

🔥 Roundtable Highlights from Coury, Hudson & Merritt
"Culture is how you behave when coaches aren’t around — and when things aren’t going well."
"We all say we want tough teams. But if you’re not teaching emotional resilience and ownership daily, you're not building that."
"You can’t just hand them culture. You have to involve them in building it — through leadership councils, rituals, and responsibility."
