AI in Family History

Post-Ponga: Facial Organization, Photo Editing, & more

Recording now available in the Community Forum

For nearly 200 years, we've passed family history between generations in the form of letters, certificates, photos, and cherished mementos. In our modern world, where aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandchildren may live hundreds or thousands of miles away, digitizing a collection would seem like a sensible answer to sharing the collection.

Once a collection, or just parts of a collection are digitized, a cabinet of tools opens to explore the stories buried in your pictures. In our community events, we're sharing insights on the best practices to use these artifacts to bring families together with their shared stories.

In this workshop, we will focus on facial recognition, photo editing, and other tools that today are infused with new AI-based functionality. For those of us who relied on Ponga for facial organization, we'll talk about some of these tools as alternatives to Ponga.

The program will not specifically recommend any single platform, but will instead provide a framework for analyzing options you might consider for your own choices.

Your presenter, Barbara Tien, is one of the co-founders at Ponga.com where she co-hosted Zoomin' events and webinars. She was also the product and customer champion for the innovative platform. She is not selling or representing any vendor or service, so the opinions are her own.

In the spirit of community, we welcome insights and advice from members of our community, many of whom bring in expertise as professional photo organizers or vendor affiliates. This is not a venue for product or service pitches, however.

The program was presented on July 13th and is available as a recording in the free community forum. Register to express interest in the program and gain access to the forum if you don't already have it.

If this is your first time registering for one of our programs, we will also add you to my email list for community updates and invite you to the free community forum. Watch for updates and an invitation to the Podia platform we use for the forum from projectkin.org@gmail.com.
