Ready for the new year!
Jan 13, 2026 7:06 am
Dear good people,
January has arrived, and with it that familiar mix of fresh pages and heavy coats. I’ve never been much of a New Year’s resolution person—I usually squirrel down through winter, quietly longing for March, longer days, and a little warmth to return. But this year feels different.
There’s something shifting. Exciting things are brewing in these next few months, and instead of simply waiting for spring, I find myself focused on what’s unfolding right now. Less about reinventing everything, more about noticing momentum.
Here are my immediate things that are lifting my spirits:
- Cyanotype courses starting this January at Phoenix Art Space
- INFLUENCE - Seafront Gallery
- Planning open studios
- Foraging on the seafront for inspiration

Spring term at Phoenix Art Space
There are some spaces left for each of the course dates including this month so if you fancied a day learning this fantastic process then jump on board, its amazing value for a full days entertainment, no artistic experience necessary and guaranteed frame worthy prints to take home.
About
Discover the art of cyanotype printing in one day
Cyanotype printing is a painterly, low-toxic way to produce unique photographic prints using light-sensitive cyanotype fluid, light, and water.
This one-day workshop includes an introduction to the history and science of cyanotypes, along with a hands-on exploration of the materials and techniques involved. Learn how to prepare paper or fabric, expose and develop images using both objects and photographic negatives, and experiment with methods such as wet-on-wet application and layered compositions.
Most materials and equipment will be provided including a range of materials and negatives to experiment with. Students are welcome to bring their own objects to use in the exposure process, e.g. flowers, leaves, utensils, semi-transparent materials, as well as any fabric to print onto.
At the end of the day everyone will have a series of prints to take home.
This course is suitable for all levels.
Costs: £75
Times: 10.30 – 16.30
Next date: Saturday 24 January
Location: White Room, Phoenix Art Space
Maximum: 8
INFLUENCE - Seafront Gallery
I have a piece of work going up on the seafront gallery in Worthing this winter for a year as part of the Sussex Bay Creates & Colonnade House series of events. It's not quite ready to view but you will be the first to know when that happens.
The 2026 Seafront Gallery exhibition is the next part in our ongoing partnership with Sussex Bay and sees artists responding to the theme of “Influence” – Influenced by our shared coastline, by the sea and the back and forth relationship that shapes the communities who inhabit this particular 100 miles of coastline.
Open Studios
Date for the diary 24th, 25th & 26th April
After the success of last April's open studio event I have decided to open my doors again to show off the works I have been making & an excuse to have a celebration, a chance to catch up with you my lovely newsletter openers over drinks, nibbles, mingling, laughter & music on the private view night or longer chats over a cuppa & biscuits over the weekend.
Guide Series, Geli plate prints, acrylic on cartridge paper
These geli plate prints will be on show along with prototype sculptures, new cyanotypes & drawings and anything else you would like to see from my archive... more on this nearer the time.
Below are a few images from last years studio open and the lovely folk that came along .
All the very best to you
Nina
