Dear good people,
In this newsletter...
- Whats happening in the studio
- Print Launch Party & Open Studio Weekend
- Prints
With only two weeks to go until the studio party & open weekend I have been busying making maquettes for a large sculptural work made from ghost netting (fishing nets that have been abandoned, lost or discarded in the ocean) which I have collected from the seafront over this last year or so. This work is directly inspired by the screen prints (above & the bottom of this newsletter) and is an embodiment of the original drawing that the screen prints came from.
Happening in the studio.....
Here are some pictures of that research, exploration and work in progress:
Sculptural work…..
This year I am taking some time to research further into the entangled relationship we have with the sea. Developing works to create a new body of sculptural installations using ghost netting and other plastics I've found washed ashore. Opposite you can see an example of a work in progress which will hang from the ceiling. This follows on from the sculptural works found in my solo show Entangle at Phoenix Art Space last year (see below).

The screen prints...
I was inspired to draw and to learn how to screen print while writing a grant application this winter.
This intricate drawing is made up of many parts from sea angels to weather systems, corals to the kraken and the fine workings of our own body systems. Inspired by sea folklore, science, the ever changing sensations of being immersed in the sea and the entanglement of our emotional and environmental relationship with it.
