The meeting where your name never came up

Howdy ,

Somewhere in your organization, that meeting has already happened.

Or it's coming.

A closed-door session. Senior leaders around a table. A short list of names. And decisions being made about who moves up.

You worked hard. You delivered. Your performance reviews are solid.

But your name? It never came up.

Here's the part that stings, it's not because they don't like you. It's not even always because you're not ready.

It's because senior leaders are quietly using a different lens. And most high-performing professionals have no idea what that lens looks like.

I sit in those conversations. Nobody in that room is asking whether you respond to emails fast. Nobody is counting your late nights. They are asking one question: Who are we willing to bet on at the next level?

To answer that, they run every name through three silent filters.

Filter one: Does this person move the real scoreboard?

Not activities. Not effort. Actual results that show up on the numbers leadership watches — revenue, cost, risk, customer retention. If they can't point to something and say because of her, this changed — your name doesn't stick.

Filter two: Are they a safe bet at the next level?

Promotion is a risk decision. Leaders are asking whether giving you more authority buys them stability or headache. How you handle pressure, problems, and people — that's what's on trial here.

Filter three: Is there a compelling story people can tell about you?

Your CV might have fifteen bullet points. In that room, you get reduced to one sentence. The question is, what sentence? She works hard won't do it. She's the one we call when something important is at risk, that's a different conversation.

Now here's the honest question: how do you score against those three filters right now?

If your results aren't as visible as your effort, that's not a character problem. It's a focus problem. You're likely working hard on maintenance work, not promotion work.

That's exactly why I created the 90-Day Result Selector. In about 10 minutes, it helps you identify the one project that moves the real scoreboard, and gets your name into the room.

As always, keep winning at work and in life.
