What's Your Uncomfortable Challenge This Week?
Howdy ,
Happy New Week.
I’d like to make this week another great one in your kitty.
Let’s do that by making you grow faster.
One way you can grow faster this week is by becoming comfortable with doing the uncomfortable.
There are tons of things you might be uncomfortable doing, but doing them will grow your capacity in ways you didn't imagine.
Think about it - every significant growth in your career likely came when you stepped outside your comfort zone.
That presentation you were terrified to give. The difficult conversation you finally had with your colleague. The project you weren't quite qualified for, but accepted anyway.
The magic happens in that space between challenge and capability.
Why being uncomfortable matters
When we're uncomfortable, we're forced to:
• Develop new skills rather than relying on existing ones
• Think creatively instead of following established patterns
• Build resilience by working through uncertainty
• Discover strengths we didn't know we had
The first time I did an online training was uncomfortable as I turned on the camera and went live.
It was November 2018. I went live again two more times in 2019. I came back a few more times in 2020.
I built my muscles by doing it. Yes, there were backstage preparations. But the big thing is going live - doing what was uncomfortable to me.
And getting better at it.
Your uncomfortable challenge this week
Now it’s your turn.
Identify one task or conversation you've been avoiding because it makes you uncomfortable. Maybe it's speaking up more in meetings, asking for feedback, or challenging a process that isn't working.
Then commit to doing it before Friday.
The key is to start small. Don't try to transform your entire approach overnight. Choose one specific action that stretches you just beyond your comfort zone.
Remember, discomfort doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. It often means you're doing something right - something that will help you grow.
I'd love to hear what uncomfortable thing you choose to tackle this week. Hit reply and let me know how it goes.
Keep winning at work and in life.
