The real reason you hit a wall at 4 pm
Howdy ,
Quick question: How do you feel at 4 pm on a typical Tuesday? That was just yesterday, so you should remember.
If you're like most professionals I work with, the answer is some version of "depleted," "foggy," or "just trying to make it to 5 pm."
Here's what most people think is happening: You're not disciplined enough. You need better willpower. Maybe more coffee. Perhaps you should wake up earlier.
Here's what's actually happening: Your operating system is broken.
That 4 pm crash isn't a character flaw. It's a design flaw.
You're running your work the way most people do. Reactive mode from 7 am. Back-to-back meetings with no buffer. Decisions are stacking up because people around you keep escalating. Emails that could wait but feel urgent. The calendar is controlled by everyone except you.
By 4 pm, you've made 47 decisions, attended 6 meetings, and responded to 89 messages. Even though I may have exaggerated a bit, you get the drift. Your brain is doing what brains do when overloaded. It shuts down non-essential functions. Strategic thinking goes offline. Presence with your team suffers.
That conversation with your spouse tonight? You'll be there physically but not really there.
This isn't sustainable. And deep down, you already know that.
The good news? This is fixable. Not with another productivity hack. With a different operating system.
Over the next 10 days, I'm walking you through the insights behind the Focused Presence OS™. The system I've used with leaders to reclaim their energy, focus, and presence.
Tomorrow, we'll talk about the meeting that didn't actually need you in it.
Keep winning at work and in life.

P.S. If you caught yourself nodding at "depleted by 4 pm," you're in the right place.
