Your team should not have to manage you

Howdy ,

There is a leadership outcome we do not measure enough: What happens inside people after they interact with you?

Are they clearer? Steadier? More able to act?

Or are they now second-guessing, managing fear, reading politics and wondering what mood will determine the next decision?

I call the first condition Rest.

Rest is not comfort.

It is not low standards.

It is the internal steadiness people experience when leadership is clear, fair, consistent and committed to the outcome.

A demanding leader can create Rest.

A friendly leader can destroy it.

The difference is predictability.

When people trust your Word, your Follow-Through, your behaviour under Pressure and the Standard you protect, they can stop spending energy managing you.

They can spend it on the mission.

That is why I regard Rest as the ultimate scoreboard of executive trust.

A useful question for today: After people leave a difficult conversation with you, do they know where they stand?

Keep winning at work and in life
