STOP: Saying these words may affect your personal brand

Howdy ,

Fellow Workplace Multipliers,

Ever heard this phrase before?

“Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.”

It’s from the book of Proverbs. Chapter 17 verse 28 to be precise.

So why am I dropping this on you today?

Simple.

Your workplace brand is only as strong as your credibility.

And your credibility? It's shaped by every word that leaves your mouth.

You have to frame what you say and how you say it to build your brand.

For example, when you say "I'm not sure if I'm right, but..." before sharing an idea, you're not being humble - you're undermining your own expertise.

This subtle self-sabotage tells everyone else that “Your full package does not include confidence or authority.”

Let’s get you into the big zone.

Try this approach instead: "Based on my experience, I believe..." or "Here's my perspective on this..."

Saying it these ways gives punch to both your expertise and your openness to discuss.

Remember, your best should shine through in every interaction. When your communication reflects confidence (not arrogance), you build a brand people trust.

It’s OK to use the occasional comedy to put people at ease when sharing your position. But don’t diminish yourself

Your action step for today: Catch yourself before using self-diminishing language today.

You can win at work and in life.
