What's the Difference Between Going in Circles and Moving Forward?

Howdy ,

Ever wonder why some people seem to navigate challenges and make good decisions with less struggle? While others spend months wrestling with the same issues?

The acceleration effect

One of the biggest benefits of coaching is how it accelerates your learning and decision-making. Instead of going in circles or learning everything through trial and error, you get to think through scenarios, explore options, and learn from your experiences more systematically.

It's like having a thinking accelerator. You still do the work of figuring things out, but you do it faster and with more confidence because you have someone helping you ask the right questions.

A few weeks ago, I was on a call with my business coach. I was giving him an update on a couple of projects that I was running. I was excited about the progress I was making.

Guess what? A few minutes later, I realized that I was on the wrong project. As good as what I had done was, it was incomplete because of a major ingredient. I had to do a whole lot of refocusing.

The pattern recognition advantage

A good coach helps you see patterns in your thinking and behavior that you might miss on your own. They notice when you're getting stuck in the same loop, or when you're not considering certain options, or when you're underestimating your own capabilities.

This pattern recognition becomes incredibly valuable over time. You start catching yourself earlier when you're heading down unproductive paths. You become more aware of your own thinking process and more skilled at managing it.

The accountability factor

There's something powerful about knowing you're going to discuss your progress with someone who cares about your success. It's not about pressure or judgment – it's about having someone who helps you stay connected to what you said was important to you.

When you know you'll be reflecting on your week with your coach, you pay more attention to what's working and what isn't. You become more intentional about your choices and more honest about your results.

Your reflection for today: What would be different about how you approach challenges if you knew you had regular time to think through them with someone skilled at helping people find clarity?

Keep winning at work and in life.

P.S.

If you're recognizing that having this kind of thinking partnership might be valuable for where you are right now, I'd love to explore what that could look like.

This month, I am opening 3 slots to The Workplace Multipliers Business School. This is where I work with a few committed professionals ready to level up their game at work.

Feel free to reach out by clicking reply to this email, and I’ll send you the details – no pressure, just an exploration of possibilities.
