The surprising way to guard your weekend that leaves people happy
Howdy ,
Yesterday, I reminded you to use Thursday to plan for the weekend.
I mentioned something I promised to deal with today.
It’s what you do when people try to plan your weekend for you.
How do they do that?
Well, they come with things they want you to be part of.
Things like events, outings and engagements.
If it aligns with your R&R plan - no biggie.
Go for it.
And if not, be bold enough to say “No”.
The problem is when these events are important to the person asking you to come.
But you would rather not go.
Today is your lucky day. Allow me to introduce you to the “R&R Buy-Back”.
A story will explain it better.
Once upon a time, someone invited me for a very important occasion. It was a personal milestone celebration.
I would have liked to go but I wasn’t going.
Why?
Because I was at a point where I needed that R&R during that weekend.
So, I bought back my R&R time.
A few days before the event, I went and bought a gift for the celebrant. I personally went to deliver it to her at her office with my apologies.
She felt so honoured that I took the time to buy a gift and bring it to her.
She was happy and so was I.
I bought back my R&R time with a gift.
Years later, she still referred to my actions as one of the most touching celebrating her milestone event.
Yes, sometimes instead of going, let a gift represent you.
That’s the R&R Buyback.
I hope this weekend will see you get some R&R.
A great R&R during the weekend can do wonders for your productivity in the new week.
Happy weekend, fellow Workplace Multipliers.
As always, keep winning at work and in life.
