Are you making this critical communication mistake?

Howdy ,

Communicating right is an interesting thing.

Why?

It’s a combination of two sides of the coin that have something in the middle keeping them from meeting.

The Two Sides of Every Conversation

On one side, we have you. You want to communicate what you want the other person to hear.

And on the other side, we have the other person. They want you to communicate what they want to hear.

If you go into a communication situation saying only what they want to hear, you become a crutch to them and don’t achieve as much as you want at work.

If you go into a communication situation saying only what you want them to hear, you are seen as self-centred and you probably won’t have their attention for too long.

Beyond the Sandwich Method: Why Simple Solutions Fail

How do you solve this?

Don’t kid yourself that you can conveniently balance what you want to say and what they want to hear like a simple sandwich.

The solution is more nuanced than that.

Creating a Safe Space: The Foundation of Effective Communication

There is one thing you have to be good at. You need to be good at making yourself a safe space for your audience.

When you get good at that, you will master the skill of telling them both what they want to hear and what you want them to hear.

Tomorrow, I’ll tell you a bit more about making yourself a safe space for people.

So they will be willing to listen to what you want to say.

And give you their attention.

Your Communication Challenge for Today

For today, I just want you to commit to being a safe space for people you engage with.

That’s all for now.

As always, keep winning at work and in life.
