What Nobody Sees (But Everyone Eventually Notices)

Howdy ,

Yesterday, I talked about why I write daily emails regardless of who reads them. Today, let's apply that same principle to your work.

Here's the uncomfortable truth: Most professionals perform for an audience. They work hard when the boss is watching, deliver quality when deadlines loom, and show professionalism when it benefits them directly.

You probably know people like that. Yes, you might even have worked with some of them.

But here's what I've learned from over two decades in the workplace: Your true character at work isn't what you do when people are watching, it's what you do when nobody is.

Your Wednesday Excellence Audit:

Take an honest look at your work behavior over the past week:

  1. Did you prepare thoroughly for meetings, even when you could have winged it?
  2. Did you follow up professionally even when responses seemed optional?
  3. Did you deliver your best work even on projects that felt invisible?

The Pattern I See: The professionals who advance consistently are the ones who treat every task, every interaction, every deliverable as if their reputation depends on it. Because it does.

Your Wednesday Challenge: Choose one "invisible" task today, something nobody will directly check or evaluate. Do it with the same excellence you'd apply if your CEO were watching.

Why? Because excellence isn't a performance. It's a practice. And practices compound into reputation, which compounds into opportunity.

Tomorrow, let's talk about the one skill that multiplies all others.

Keep showing up excellently,

And keep winning at work and in life.
