When you think the Bosses are not Listening to you.

During a conversation with a client, this phrase blurted out from the other side of the conversation “Management is not listening to me”.

The reason for this point of view was not far-fetched.

Some of the proposals and recommendations made have not been accepted by management.

Interesting point of view.

Only one problem with that.

It is premised on a faulty assumption. The assumption was that management was not seeing the 360-degree view of the matters that recommendations had been made on.

My view is a bit more nuanced.

I have always treated my recommendations as ideas. There are typically 5 things that happen to ideas:

  1. They are accepted as they are
  2. They are rejected as they are
  3. They are pushed onto the shelf for future use
  4. They consolidated into a much bigger idea.
  5. They are revised into a better version.

With 5 possible options, I can’t tie myself to just one option as the best use of my ideas per time.

People listen but listening does not mean they have to do exactly what you said.

I have just shown you 5 ways to skin a cat…maybe you might have more.

Your way doesn’t have to be the highway to heaven..or was it the highway to hell?

You don’t need to live and die by your ideas.

Don't go romancing your ideas

They are exactly what they are.

Ideas.

Ideas are not you…sometimes they show up just to be taken apart…piece by piece.

A not-so-good idea does not mean you are a not-so-good professional.

It just means you need to come up with something better.

Sometimes it means you have to become better.

A better you will bring out better ideas.

And many ideas will make the world of work better.

One of those might be the “Better Today” idea for your team, boss or even your company.

As long as you don’t stop bringing up your ideas.

Just because you think the bosses are not listening to you.

The magic formula…keep bringing up the ideas

Great ideas won’t always drop like magic in your mind. They are sometimes a result of a not-so-good idea recreated in a new form.

Keep the idea machine pumping.

You will always have a place at the Table.
