What this week was actually about
Howdy ,
This week wasn't really about vacation.
Tuesday was about refusing to negotiate your own rest. Wednesday was about building a team that doesn't collapse without you. Thursday was about making that handoff real instead of symbolic.
Underneath all three is one idea: your value at work was never supposed to be measured by how much of yourself you burn. It's measured by whether people…your boss, your team, your own future self…can count on you to do what you said, the way you said it, every single time.
Rested or not. Present or not.
That's not a productivity principle. That's an identity.
Most people chase reliability by making themselves indispensable…always on, always available, always the one holding it together. That's not reliability. That's fragility wearing a busy schedule.
The people who are actually trusted…by bosses, by teams, by the people counting on them years from now, not just this quarter…are the ones who built something sturdier than their own constant presence.
They protected their rest. They built people who could carry the weight. They made their word bigger than their availability.
If this week's stories landed for you, that's the real question underneath them: is your reliability built on you showing up every time…or on something that holds even when you don't?
That's the identity worth building. It's the one I've spent this year putting language and structure around, and I'll be sharing more of it soon.
Keep winning at work and in life.
