The sentence you were supposed to write
Howdy ,
Did you write it?
I asked you on Tuesday to write one sentence…not your title, not your job description…that answers this: when my name comes up in a room I'm not in, what do I want the next sentence to be?
If you did, good. Now live into it…that's still the assignment.
If you didn't, I want to be honest with you about why, because I've watched this happen with people.
It's not that the exercise was hard. It's that writing the sentence makes the gap real. And it's easier to stay busy than to sit with the gap.
So this week we named three things.
Narrative control…you shape how you're read, or someone else does it for you. Strategic proximity…you engineer access to the room, or you wait outside it. Risk perception…you become the safe bet, or you stay brilliant and unchosen.
None of these are luck. None of them are politics. They're skills, and skills get built one week at a time…not in a single Monday.
Here's the thing I want you to sit with going into the weekend.
You don't need to fix all three by Monday morning. You need to pick the one that's costing you the most right now, and give it fifteen minutes of honest attention.
Your move before Monday
Reread the sentence you wrote. Say it out loud. Ask yourself: is this true of me yet, or is this who I'm becoming? Both are fine answers. Just be honest about which one it is.
That's the whole game this week…not performing the answer, becoming it.
Keep winning at work and in life.
