Yesterday was the summer solstice. The relatively mild weather in Houston in early June has given way to 100-degree heat (round it off as 40 degrees if you think in Celsius) and high humidity. We hit heat indexes of 115 a few days ago. Which was as hot as it sounds. (Luckily the AC repair I mentioned last time was quick and painless.)

My readers in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, and comparable places are laughing. (If that includes you, drop me a line. I love hearing from readers all around the world). It's the start of winter in the southern hemisphere. With temperatures like this morning's in Sydney, Australia, I'm envious....
