Science fiction and fantasy - from Middle America to the ends of the Universe

Last week, to celebrate the release of my latest short novel, my family took a road trip to central Texas. The highlight for me was a visit to the Treaty Oak Distillery in Dripping Strings, just outside of Austin. Good bourbon and gin, a restaurant with great smoked brisket and pulled pork. Recommended if you have an interest in those things and find yourself in the Texas Hill Country.

Along the way, we did something you have to do on any Texas road trip: stop at a Buc-Ee's. If you're from here you know what I mean. If you don't, it's an uber-convenience store with a restaurant, beef jerky, and more gas pumps than you can count. Plus the usual fountain drinks and candy.

At my son's urging, my wife tried a new candy bar, Reese's Sticks. Milk chocolate and peanut butter wrapped around a crunchy wafer. If you remember the old Reese's slogan, that chocolate and peanut butter are two great tastes that taste great together, Reese's Sticks builds on that.

There are other great tastes that taste great together. I grew up reading Larry Niven and Raymond E. Feist, switching from hard sci fi to high-magic fantasy pretty easily. (Then I found Roger Zelazny, who could work in both modes at the same time).

If you also like space opera and fantasy, why not try both at the same time?

Ten years after the last war, Melinda Scott discovers something in deep space and is dragged back into a world her family was banished from. Now with Necromancers to her left, liches to her right, and humanity in the middle it’s up to her to figure out why someone is trying to kill her. Book one in a new series.
