The Growth Note | High Agency Thinking

Read it. Feel it. Do something with it.

────────────

Hey you,

History is full of experts who said, “That can’t be done.”

And it’s also full of people who ignored them.

Take the Wright Brothers.

They weren’t trained engineers. They weren’t from elite schools. They ran a bicycle shop in Dayton, Ohio.

Every authority in the world said human flight was impossible.

But the Wright Brothers didn’t wait for permission. They built their own wind tunnels, tested, failed, adjusted, and tested again—thousands of times.

On December 17, 1903, they proved the experts wrong. The first powered flight lasted just 12 seconds. But it changed everything.

That’s high agency.

High Agency vs Low Agency

George Mack calls high agency “the mindset that the world bends to your decisions.”

Low agency is the opposite—waiting, deferring, or outsourcing action until the world changes for you.

High agency isn’t about having more resources. It’s about being more resourceful.

3 Traits of High Agency

1. Clear Thinking

High-agency people cut through noise. They don’t hide behind complexity. They ask: What’s really going on here? What matters most?

2. Resourcefulness

They use what they have. If there’s no tool, they build one. If there’s no map, they draw one. Progress comes from creativity, not waiting for ideal conditions.

3. Bias to Action

While others ruminate and plan endlessly, high-agency people move. They learn through doing, then adjust. Action creates clarity.

2 Quotes to Reflect On

“The most important thing is to never stop questioning.” – Albert Einstein

“The best way to predict your future is to create it.” – Abraham Lincoln

1 Stretch for the Week

Ask yourself: Where in my life am I letting life happen to me instead of happening to life?

Pick one area. Then take one uncomfortable action this week that moves the needle forward—before you feel ready.

If this week’s Growth Note sparked something, forward it to one person who’s ready to stop waiting and start moving.

More soon — until then, speak boldly.
