The Confidence Loop
Aug 08, 2025 4:01 pm
Hey you,
Last Friday, my buddy Seth tried to talk me into doing a triathlon.
He said "are you in or are you out?"
I said "When is it?"
He said "next month"
I had excuses. It'll be too hard. I wont have enough time to train.
I wasn't confident in my ability to do it.
But in my gut, I knew I wanted to say yes.
Then… life answered for me.
I was sitting in an airport terminal when a woman sat down next to me, oversized sunglasses, sniffling, clearly holding back tears.
I noticed she was writing a Facebook post about her son.
I called her by name and asked her what happened.
She told me he had been shot the night before while walking into church by members of a gang he had left months ago.
Toward the end of our conversation, she said something I won’t forget:
“You never know how much time you have left. Do the things that matter. Don’t wait.”
And that was it. I signed up. Not because the triathlon matters all that much…
But because who I’ll become while doing it does.
On Saturday, my birthday, Seth and I did our baseline test.
We swam. Biked. Ran. Laughed. Collapsed from exhaustion. Laughed again.
We measured where we are against where we want to be.
We’ve got 50 days to close the gap. 43 left now.
And that’s where this week’s Growth Note comes in:
3 Ideas on The Confidence Loop
1- Confidence is earned, not given.
You don’t feel confident before you move—you earn it by moving.
Dan Sullivan’s 4 Cs make it simple:
- Commit before you’re ready
- Find Courage in the unknown
- Build Capability through action
- Emerge with Confidence
That’s the loop. And the best part? It works every time.
2- Your brain needs proof—not pep talks.
Confidence grows fastest when you give yourself evidence:
- “I said it out loud.”
- “I made the call.”
- “I showed up today.”
Track your reps. Celebrate the attempts. Let your brain build a case that you’re becoming the person you admire.
3- Clarity builds confidence—and clarity comes from expression.
You don’t get clear before you speak—you get clear by speaking.
Want to feel more articulate?
Practice. Out loud. On paper. In real conversations.
Because the more clearly you express your thoughts, the more confidently you carry yourself.
2 Quotes to Reflect On
“Confidence is not a personality trait. It’s a skill earned through evidence.”
– Unknown
“You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
– James Clear
1 Stretch for the Week
Where in your life are you waiting to feel confident before you act?
Make the commitment.
Take the reps.
The confidence will come, but only after you move.
Whatever you’re building - whether it’s a body, a business, or your voice -
Don’t wait to feel ready.
Start the loop.
Confidence will catch up.
More soon—until then, speak boldly.
