The Growth Note | Lead the Way They Listen
Read it. Feel it. Do something with it.

Hey you,
If you’ve ever walked away from a conversation thinking, “I said it perfectly — so why didn’t they get it?” this one’s for you.
Recently I have been crafting a DISC training for a company that wanted to improve how their team communicates — not just to customers, but to each other. We spend time exploring one of the simplest but most powerful truths in leadership:
People don’t see the world as it is. They see it as they are.
And if you want to lead or connect effectively, you have to speak to their style, not just your own.
3 Insights on Communicating Through DISC
D — Lead With Results
- “D” stands for Dominance. They’re direct, decisive, and fast-paced.
- When you talk to a D-style, skip the small talk and get to the point.
- They don’t want your entire process — they want to know, “What’s the outcome?”
I — Lead With Energy
- “I” stands for Influence. They’re expressive, social, and optimistic.
- They thrive on stories and connection. If you’re too rigid or data-heavy, you’ll lose them.
- They don’t just hear words — they feel your enthusiasm.
S — Lead With Stability
- “S” stands for Steadiness. They’re patient, dependable, and relational.
- They value trust and reassurance. If you rush or pressure them, they’ll quietly pull away.
- Show consistency and calm, and you’ll earn loyalty that lasts.
C — Lead With Clarity
- “C” stands for Conscientiousness. They’re detail-driven, analytical, and precise.
- They want to understand the why and the how before saying yes.
- Logic and preparation are how they feel respected.
2 Quotes to Reflect On
“The greatest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” – George Bernard Shaw
“Leadership is not about being understood — it’s about understanding.” – Kamryn Reynolds
1 Stretch for the Week
Think of one person you regularly work or communicate with.
Ask yourself:
- What’s their behavioral style?
- How can I adjust my approach to match their pace, priorities, and perspective?
Then try it this week — speak their language, not just your own.
You’ll be amazed how quickly connection turns into cooperation.
If this week’s Growth Note resonated, forward it to someone who leads people — because the best leaders don’t just talk at others, they listen through them.
More soon — until then, speak boldly.
—Kamryn
