This is a substantial amount for anyone, especially seniors or adults with disabilities who are on a fixed income.
Luckily, there are programs available to assist low-income families with some of the costs of medications and these are called Patient Assistance Programs.
Patient assistance programs are offered by a number of organizations. Some of those include:
- Nonprofits
- Pharmaceutical companies
- State sponsored programs from Health and Human Services Departments

I will say that finding help for prescriptions definitely requires effort, however, if you know where to look it makes this task easier.
