A Ssssscary Morning

I’ve shared with you in the past that my daughter has a sweet snake, a ball python named Myrtle. Well, it finally happened …

Myrtle got out of her cage.

My daughter accidentally left the lid off overnight and didn’t realize it until the next morning. I dropped her off at school, then came home to look for the snake. I was so scared I wouldn’t find her! I pulled all sorts of stuff out of my daughter’s room, focusing especially on the area under the bed, since ball pythons love to hide in dark, enclosed spaces.

No luck.

My daughter has an old toy box. I pulled off the stuff that was on top of it, lifted the lid … and there she was. Myrtle had slithered in, using the gap between the lid and the body of the toy box, where you can lift the lid. She was happily curled up into a ball, probably taking a morning nap.

I laughed, then cried in relief as I cuddled her. (She really is such a sweet snake.) Then I put her back where she belongs … and made sure to put the lid on and fasten it closed. Let’s hope that never happens again!
