Check Out this Plant!

As I was walking my dog the other day, I saw this plant.

Now, I've walked by this area hundreds of times, and this plant has never before looked like this, with a huge stalk and blooms rising 10 – 15 feet into the sky!

I posted the pic on Facebook and found out it's an agave, AKA century plant. About 10 – 30 years into its life cycle, it grows that stalk, and it blooms ... and then it dies. Wild, right? Thankfully, it has usually created mini century plants at the base by the time it dies, so one of them may survive and bloom again in a decade or three. I hope so!
