Dec 04, 2020 10:53 pm

Happy Friday!

As I mentioned in a previous email, I'm writing a nonfiction book geared toward authors. It's time for my Author Resources newsletter to get the cover + title reveal...and a chance to beta read!

Here it is, the cover of Early Readers Catch the Worms: How Alpha, Beta, and ARC Readers Can Help You Publish a Better Novel.

It'll be ready for beta readers SOON! If you're a fiction author (published or aspiring), I'd love you to apply for my beta reader team for this book.

Interested? All the details are below.

And if you're not in a place where you can beta read right now, no problem! Keep your ears open—before too long, I'll be looking for ARC readers.

Thanks for sharing my excitement about this book!

INFO FOR BETA READERS

Who

I’d like to work with novelists. (They're my target audience for this book.)

The team may include those who’ve already published and those who plan to publish in the future but haven’t done so yet.

I’d also like various types of publishing to be represented…authors who have published (or plan to publish) via self-publishing, hybrid publishing, small-press publishing, and traditional publishing.

Beta readers are people who enjoy reading an early version of a book…complete with typos and other errors! The best beta readers are good at sticking with a schedule.

What

I’ll send beta readers a digital copy of Early Readers Catch the Worms. I anticipate it’ll be less than 30,000 words long (about the length of a fictional novella). While it’ll contain errors, I’ll work hard to give a fairly polished manuscript to my beta readers so that it’s enjoyable to read.

When

I expect to have a draft available for beta readers by mid-to-late December. I’ll ask for feedback within three weeks.

Where

Beta readers can give feedback via email and/or through a beta reader questionnaire I’ll send to them.

Why

Why do I want beta readers? They’ll help make this book a quality work that’s useful to its target audience…fellow fiction authors!

Why would you want to be an beta reader? This is an unpaid position, but beta readers get the privilege of reading a manuscript early…and the pleasure of knowing their feedback is making a real difference.

How

Below is an application. Because I limit the size of my beta teams, I may not be able to accept everyone who applies. However, if you’re not chosen, I’ll invite you to be an ARC reader later on!

In the application below, you’ll need a “magic word.” The word is WORM.

Please apply by Monday, December 14, 2020.

Once I’ve chosen my beta team, I’ll send them all the information they need.
