Wow. Life can change quickly, right?

I wrote my last two newsletters before Christmas, setting them up in advance to send them, so I could take some time off over the holidays. In my last newsletter, I shared that it was my husband’s birthday.

What I didn’t know when I was writing that was that I wouldn’t get to spend his birthday with him! As I mentioned in an earlier email, my grandfather is recovering from COVID-19 and pneumonia. My parents are caregivers for both my grandparents. On Christmas, as she was about to go to bed, my grandmother fell and broke her hip.

Knowing how overwhelming life had gotten for my parents, I packed on 12/26 and drove up to Kansas on 12/27. I spent a week there (wearing a mask) so that I could support my parents. It was really great to get some time with extended family, though I did miss my husband on his birthday! My grandparents are both doing fairly well, all things considered, and I’m back home now.

Watching the health struggles of my grandparents, who are 90 and 93, has given me a different perspective on aging, specifically the final years of life. Maybe some of those new thoughts will come out in my future novels.

As stressful as life has been lately, I’ve been so happy to lose myself in books! I’m currently reading From Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout. It’s fantastic.
