BOTOX REVISITED: is there potential for causing harm?
May 24, 2024 7:11 pm
Hey
Have you ever questioned the long-term effects BOTOX? What if repeat injections of BOTOX were doing more harm than good over time?
For years, Botox has been hailed as a conservative intervention for addressing hypertonicity/spasticity in individuals with neurological diagnoses like cerebral palsy. But emerging evidence suggests that this "routine" treatment may have concerning long-term anatomical, physiological, and functional implications that challenge its safety profile.
I'm excited to share a thought-provoking webinar hosted by the amazing therapists at FootPrints that will dig into the evidence and re-examine best practice when considering Botox:
BOTOX REVISITED: Assessing Evidence of Long-Term Impact, Collaborating with the Medical Team, and Helping Clients Make Sound Decisions
Presented by: Yocheved Bensinger-Brody PT, PhD, PCS.
This beginner-level, distance learning interactive webinar will take a deeper dive into the Botox literature, exploring its historical context and the growing body of research that raises red flags about its repeated use, especially in pediatric populations.
This webinar will integrate lecture and discussion to explore the Botox literature within a historical context and understand how we can discuss our concerns with physicians and support families as they choose to pursue various clinical options.
Key Takeaways
By attending this webinar, you will be able to:
- Identify the historical context of Botox implementation in care plans for neurological diagnoses.
- Describe the physiological mechanism of action of Botox for spasticity management.
- Recognize the clinical utility and concerns with repeated Botox use in the pediatric population.
- Discuss your concerns about Botox with team member physicians and collaborate towards considering other options.
- Identify the potential utility and negative implications of Botox to empower you to educate caregivers and family members.
