Want a cheat sheet on Interoception Publications we've covered?

Hey

I would say that most of our understanding of sensory integration comes from a clinical lens, followed by research. It feels like Interoception is different - coming from a research and science lens and then applied to a clinical picture right?

As I've tried to understand interoception, I've found a ton of interesting research and today's cheat sheet clusters them into useful clinical categories and take-aways that lead me back to it's clinical relevance.

For example:

  • Imagine a workshop where parents and children engage in activities that enhance interoceptive awareness together.
  • What if schools implemented daily interoceptive check-ins to foster emotional intelligence?

Here's a summary of concepts covered by the shared publications:

  1. Interoception is vital for emotional regulation and social cognition in both neurotypical children and those with ASD.
  2. Caregiver interactions shape interoceptive awareness, influencing children's ability to interpret bodily signals and regulate emotions.
  3. The THISQ provides a focused assessment of neutral bodily sensations, enhancing research on interoception.
  4. Higher interoceptive sensitivity is linked to improved emotional regulation and physical activity in children.
  5. Catatonia in neurodevelopmental disabilities necessitates better diagnostic criteria and personalized treatment strategies.
  6. A family-centered approach is crucial for developing emotion regulation skills in children.
  7. Future studies should investigate the neural mechanisms of interoceptive processing and its impact on development.

It's all laid out for you on a convenient 1 pager, categorised by clinical topic - you're welcome 🙂
