Hey ,
I don't imagine anyone of us in this Wired Collective is not a neuroscience junkie. If you are like me, someone just has to say 'neuro' and I get all perked up and excited about what I can apply to my therapy 😃
But the question is, are WE using neuroscience to OUR personal advantage?
Research shows that methods like spaced repetition, multi-sensory learning, interleaving practice and active recall aren't just study hacks; they're brain-boosting strategies that align with our cerebral wiring, turning short-term memories into long-term knowledge.
And my goal with The Wired Collective is to tap into neuroscience to turn our brains into high-speed, info-absorbing machines. When you participate in Wired Collective activities, it's like feeding your brain the ultimate power snack—science-backed, data-driven, and undeniably fun.
Here's how we break it down:
1 - Spaced Repetition: We're starting with the spotlights, dropping nuggets and revisiting ideas. We'll come back to these ideas more than a few times as we connect in the Wise Table, Scholar Sip Café, Wired Weeklies and revision time.
2 - Multi-sensory Learning: We've got video, text, podcasts, images, conversations, challenges and discussions. We all have our preferences, but hands down my favorite way to learn and integrate are the interactive discussions.
3 - Interleaving Practice: Mix up your study subjects or skills (interleaving practice) rather than focusing on one thing at a time (blocked practice). This challenges the brain to adapt and apply concepts flexibly, enhancing problem-solving skills. Yes we're focusing on Interoception, but we're sprinkling in all our past learning, taking a few detours and jumping in and out of other topics all the time. It's the best way to connect the dots. An anchor point in the spotlight so it's not just haphazard info overwhelm, but it's connected to the bigger picture.
4 - Active Recall: Actively capturing and talking about what you're learning, rather than passive reading or watching, encourages deeper neural encoding and retrieval pathways.
All this to say - if you want to take advantage of neuroscience to keep you moving towards excellence here's 3 things you can do this week...
- Watch the Spotlight Snippet
- Capture your thoughts, insights and a-ha's in the Smart Doc
- Have a conversation that connects the dots, integrates the concept or grows your understanding - do it LIVE in a Wired Weekly or take advantage of tech and do it asynchronously in our Conversation Board
Today's snippet is jam packed with info.
Kelly covers
- Working with young children and children who are non-verbal
- Behavior and Sensory in relation to interoception
- Research, Assessments and Outcomes
This snippet has A LOT of additional resources. Don't let them overwhelm you. Just browse through to know what's there so you come back to it when it's useful.
And of course share your thoughts, start a conversation, ask questions, share examples or insights, struggles or wins and generally connect with other amazing members. Just hit the [Join the Conversation] button you'll find in Spotlight-2
And don't forget to check out the Smart Docs for an extra boost!
Have fun delving into interoception this week!
Warm regards,
Mindy
