: Excitement, Engagement, Extension - Spotlight 4 [TWC]
Jun 30, 2025 8:06 pm
Hey ,
Last week, we focused on why perfecting movement quality and alignment in those first seven years is a true rescue mission. This week, Susan takes us even deeper into the “how” behind meaningful change, and these are the clinical details you don’t want to miss.
🔑 Spotlight 4 – This Week’s Take-A-Ways
1. Alignment Is Non-Negotiable
Lasting sensory-motor change with peripheral stimulation starts with precise alignment. If a child is in posterior pelvic tilt or inactive thoracic flexion, motor learning fine motor control or distal function becomes almost impossible.
2. Movement and Exploration > Perfect Posture
We’re not aiming for kids to hold a “perfect” position. The real goal is active movement and exploration, keeping extension in gravity. Engagement and excitement are key. When you attention starts to fade, so does their learning.
3. Triple E’s: Excitement, Engagement, Extension
The “Triple E’s” are the secret sauce. Switch up activities, keep things interesting, and watch for those moments when attention drops—because that’s your cue to change it up and keep the brain primed for learning.
4. Support Surface and Foot Position Matter
Alignment starts at the support surface. Weight through the heels, feet under or just in front of the knees, pelvis upright—these details make all the difference for proprioceptive input and movement quality.
