Don't miss this meeting of great, nerdy minds today!

Dear ,
I'm stealing these words from our awesome Wired member Kate Scott in our current goal clarity challenge because I couldn't have said it better myself!
I love that there exists a gathering of fellow curious happy nerds who are passionate about helping kiddos. The fact that we cross cultures, demographic groups, experience & training just adds to the wonderfulness.
Thank you Kate!
And for those of you who are really nerdy, you are in for a treat today! We are meeting with Dr Fi Graham who is giving us a special, pre-publication presentation of the results of her MASSIVE single-blind, 2-arm parallel-group, cluster randomised control study 🤓
But wait! There's more!
I thought it would be fun to warm you up for the discussion by thinking through two very similar study designs and what they mean for how you interpret the research outcomes.
Both studies used a two group randomised control trial comparing usual practice / standard care to the treatment intervention (GAME/OPC).
GAME used 2 experienced therapists to deliver high quality weekly/fortnightly therapy, bringing in specialists like vision therapists to deliver their intervention in the treatment group, compared to whatever was available in the local clinic for the control group.
OPC randomised at the level of the clinician, with those in the intervention arm receiving OPC training but otherwise doing usual care compared to usual care.
I'd love you to muse a little on the pro's and con's of these two designs and what it means to do clinical research that 'mimics' real clinical practice. With so much heterogeneity of patient population and so many variables.
You may have seen this post in the FB group HERE 😉 (If you don't want to be biased by my very strong opinions 😂 then don't go reading it until after our meeting today.)
Can't wait to get nerdy with you all!
Mindy
