Protecting spinal rods over the long-term [CEO]
Dec 06, 2024 8:30 pm
Hey ,
If you don't think 24 hour postural management is FUN then you haven't watched this session with Sarah Clayton. This CEO session is a super serious topic approached with such a lighthearted joy, without losing any of the importance of the message or the plan of action.
It was UNBELIEVABLE in James' own words!!
You are so awesome Sarah, loved your skeleton and visually it really helped understand what you were saying about bones and hips, James loved it as you could tell he couldn't stop talking!!
(Merryn)
♥️
Sarah and Merryn tackle postural care for James, an adolescent who is 18 months post spinal rod surgery and showing some assymetry in chest and sternum position. Hone in on assessing symmetry with a focus on the sternum and pelvis, positioning to protect the spinal rod and best placements of lateral supports and leg stabilizers
Some clinical take-aways
- Protecting spine and bones at night - enables James to do what he loves during the day - plays wheelchair basketball and rugby.
- Match the sleeping posture to the standing posture. In Jame's case, his posture in left side lying is an exact mirror of his standing asymmetries.
- Be wary of memory foam and too many pillow that don't allow for the body to properly cool down during sleep.
+ some great references to additional resources and relevant research
Sit down and be inspired!
Warm regards,
Mindy
