Hey

We are onto WEEK-4 of the OPC Curious Minds Quest and the curious minds are continuing to excel at being brilliantly insightful in their quest to explore, learn and integrate all things OPC.

But before we jump into it, here's a snippet or two from week-3 to inspire us all:

"So, using an OPC mindset with a family recently around obtaining equipment for a child - it felt so good to sit back and allow the mother of the child to tell me what her preferences were. We sat together and looked at various options online, spoke about the ideal versus the doable and sent her home to 'shop' on her own to decide. She returned the following session with a decision which we both agreed upon and she felt good about. It's a great starting point now, heading into the clinic and ordering processes, which we all know are cumbersome and lengthy (at least in the US) - as I'm fairly certain usage at home will be greater with mom empowered as a lead in the process. Truthfully, I believe I have always tried quite hard to elicit parents' input into equipment choices; however, really allowing them to be more of a lead is a wonderful shift. I feel at times parents obtain equipment because they feel pressured by the medical community to do the best they can for their child but are not given the opportunity to think about if and how they will use it.

"curious question for this week: are there times during episodes of care when it's more 'worth' spending more time talking. if you have limitations in time and if you're there specifically do be doing hands on therapy when would you be prioritising using the OPC approach? introduction (or not!) of equipment, transition from primary to secondary education as examples?
