It's been waaaay to long [Wired Collective]

Hey !

“How did you go bankrupt?” Bill asked.
“Two ways,” Mike said. “Gradually and then suddenly.”

This iconic excerpt is reportedly from Ernest Hemingway’s 1926 novel, The Sun Also Rises and I've heard in several conversations recently that have absolutely nothing to do with therapy. But as I was going over my conversation about red flags with Julie Perfect for Spotlight Snippet 4 it hit me that this applies exactly to what we were talking about.

By the time we've noticed changes in our kid functional abilities, we are well into the slippery slope of 'suddenly' when we really need to be intervening in the 'gradually' phase. And in the reality of how we do therapy these days, I wonder if we are paying enough attention to giving families the right tools to recognize they're in the 'gradually' phase, and also the right support to get back out of it.

So what better place to brainstorm this important topic than a Wired Weekly this week (they're back 😃).

Wired Weeklies times are permanently set for the next few months (until daylight saving wreaks havoc with us all). There are two times each fortnight to accommodate time zones. You can attend as many as you like and times can be found in the Hub if you click the [🗓️ Events] tab.

Why should you make the time?

Well I'm so glad you asked!!

Wired Weeklies are semi-structured virtual meetups where we get to

  • connect with our amazing wired colleagues,
  • keep ourselves accountable,
  • challenge our thinking,
  • learn,
  • connect the dots,
  • grow our network and
  • re-energise so we can show up for our kids as our best self.

Honestly, if you're in The Wired Collective because you value a community of passionate, brilliant therapists then Wired Weeklies should be high on your 'not to be missed' list.

And talking of 'not to be missed' - did you see the 4th Spotlight Snippet dropped yesterday?

I'm hoping you are getting notifications from the Hub when a new Wired Collective activity is uploaded. If you're not, head over to settings > preferences (https://twc.wiredon.ltd/account/preferences) and toggle your notifications switch on. People are loving the new discussions section of the hub and if you're not getting notifications you might be missing some great thoughts and conversations (including some cool course discounts if you act fast)

Spotlight 4 was jam packed with important snippets and key concepts so you definitely want to go check it out.

I found this really cool presentation on the SATco that is not to be missed - especially if you're in schools or you are thinking about using the SATco.

And because pain is one of those red flags, I've gone through and summarized the most useful pain screening tools so that you can quickly find ones that match your kids and families needs.

And then, because Julie and I were talking about 'stacking' the rib cage and pelvis, I thought I'd share an interesting scale that has categorised the different possiblities of the 'stack'. Not sure how applicable the scale is to our population group, but just looking at the stacks systematically with this scale helps me to start thinking more clearly about what I'm seeing - so maybe it will help you to.

Here's your action plan for this week

  1. Listen to the spotlight on the Activities Page >> https://twc.wiredon.ltd/
  2. Expand your toolbox with the pain screening tools. Download one or two to try with families
  3. Hone your clinical analysis skills by trying to identify the stacked cup configuration on colleagues, family members and your kids.

And then come share your thoughts in the Discussion because when you share your thoughts, we all benefit!

Have a fabulous week!

Mindy

PS. Add Wired Weeklikes to your calendar - check out this quick 'how to' >> https://wired.d.pr/v/O0CrkA

PPS. The Hub page can be a little quirky when it's just been updated. If it doesn't look right, or you're not seeing the newest activity, just refresh the page and that should sort it.
