Hey
We are onto WEEK-3 of the OPC Curious Minds Quest and the curious minds are continuing to excel at being brilliantly insightful in their quest to explore, learn and integrate all things OPC.
But before we jump into it, here's a snippet or two from week-2 to inspire us all:
"My nugget from spotlight 3: "What's the most important thing for you right now?" I have printed this and put on my desk - my goal is to try start all conversations with this curious question - challenge accepted :)
Merryn Roberston's Week-2 nugget...
"I had a phone call today with a family and instead of jumping into what I thought was the most important, I paused and asked the mum "what's the most important thing right now" and not surprisingly it was a bit different to what I was expecting.... the conversation eventually got back to what I thought/understood to be the main issue but mum seemed really happy she lead the conversation and I was trying (really hard not to interrupt) to actively listen more, she was so appreciative. My next tool box challenge to use - what's your takeaway from today - watch this space!
Merryn Robertson's Week-2 reflection
I liked the reminder in spotlight #3 to repeatedly check-in with parents/caregivers to be certain that session to session, we are staying focused on their most important goals, as circumstances change quickly, and if I am not using the right prompts, ultimately, I am potentially missing out on key information that could make or break a productive session for them. I will be using the phrases grid for sure, and not just for the week!!
Kathy Volkman's Week-2 nugget
And there's a whole lot more brilliance! But I didn't want to make this email too long, so you can go and check them out HERE
I'm just loving these! Thank you guys for your wisdom!
The competition is heating up, but our top 3 have held their lead!

Instructions
1 - Share a Nugget: Each week we will be focusing on one or two past activities. This week we start with the spotlights.
- Spotlight 5: Unpacking the Elements of Effective Coaching
- Spotlight 6: Trauma-Informed Care, Behavioral Goals, and Meaningful Conversations in Equipment Provision
You don't' have to do it all, but do one thing.
Squiz through the spotlight resources, watch the video, listen to the podcast, read the transcript.
2 - Take the Challenge and Reflect: Dive deeper into the content by taking the challenge for double entries into the draw. This week's challenge is to record a snippet of a conversation with a parent or two then watch it back and reflect on what went well, what you might like to try differently next time.
Did you predominantly use open ended questions?
Did you make space for the parent to problem solve before offering solutions?
What questions came up for you?
3 - Ask a Curious Question: Curious questions are our highest value here in The Wired Collective. So for an impressive triple entry into the draw, add a curious question this week. It can be about the two spotlights we are covering, or any other question that's come up for you about coaching, goal setting and OPC that you would like us to dig into in our wrap-up Q&A with Dr. Fi Graham in February.
This is your chance to spark a thought-provoking discussion.
The OPC Quest for Curious Minds is not just an opportunity to win a valuable continued education voucher, but it's also a chance to deepen your understanding, connect with amazing members, and improve your clinical practice.
What's not to get excited about?
Logistics
- Notifications: You'll want to make sure your notification settings are correct so that you don't miss out on the nuggets, insights and questions, and you also don't get too many notifications that clog your inbox. Head over to your profile and check you are happy with your notification settings HERE. You can choose from hourly, daily, weekly notifications - or none - but that would be pretty sad🙃
- Prize Draw: We will do the Prize Draw at our Big Wrap-Up Q&A with Dr Fi Graham in February. You can check times and grab a seat HERE. Any comment you add as part of the challenge over this week gets you entries into the draw. You don't need to have completed all of them, but the more you complete, the more your chances (and your awesomeness) grow.
- Navigating the challenge: The challenge is being hosted in the community forum on The Wired Collective Dashboard. There are 3 posts where you can add your comments. Add your nuggets in the nugget post, your reflection in the reflection post, and your question in the question post - you get the idea right 😊
The Community forum can be accessed from your side menu in the dashboard, or click any of the buttons in the instructions above to jump directly to the post.
That's it - let's play!
Have a wonderful week!
Mindy
