Your Official Invite: Book Club Launch, Laser Coaching, and All the News You’ve Been Waiting For

Jul 23, 2025 11:16 pm

Hey ,

You may or may not have realized that as a rule I send out emails to Wired Collective members at the beginning of each week and we're now past mid-week and there's been nothing new.

If you missed me (and I'm really hoping you did!) I just want to assure you that there's been things buzzing in the background that are 'jump out of yer seats' exciting and I've been trying to wrestle them into some sort of order so I can share them with you.

NB!! There's no Wired Weeklies this week - they've been bumped aside to accomodate the very exciting Wired Collective Book Club for the next two months (read on...)

Last week I hinted at what was coming in The Wired Collective and I can barely contain my excitement!

We've got The Wise Table,

We've got Laser Coaching,

We've got Clinical advances in Spinal Neuromodulation - A mini Summit

We've got The Wired Collective Book Club

There's a lot to share on each of these so I'm going to give you the short - fast and easy actions first and then get into the BIG details of each as they become closer in time to get you out of your chair and jumping with excitement (yes you can send me a photo of this and I will love you for it!)

1 - The Wise Table:

When I first thought about starting the Wise Table I was hungry for the shared conversation that sometimes grows over a shared lunch at a course or conference when passionate, brilliant thinkers are bouncing ideas off of each other after a particularly stimulating morning. All of the Wise Tables we've had so far have fed this desire for me, but I don't think I've ever been as excited as I am for this next one in August. Susan has invited Jean-Pierre Maes to her Wise Table. JP is one of the most brilliant thinkers in our field and who knows where Susan will take the conversation but there's one thing I know for sure - it's going to make your mind explode! So grab your seat now >> https://bookme.name/wiredOnDevelopment/a-wise-table-in-the-wired-collective You want to make time for this one!

2 - Laser Coaching

Talk is good - seeing it in action is even better! Now's your time to get Susan's eyes and brains on your kids. Thinking about Whole Body Vibration, eStim, or even wondering if you should be doing spinal modulation. Laser Coaching is your opportunity to laser focus in on a kid and get expert insight on where you should be heading next. We're accepting Expressions of Interest NOW. What this means is you need to fill out a quick form with a brief case history - no identifying factors - age, diagnosis and your main clinical question only. This is by far the best way to integrate knowledge so step outside your comfort zone and give it a go >> https://bit.ly/TWClaser

3 - Clinical advances in Spinal Neuromodulation

What does the science and clinical experience tell us about efficacy, potential and safety for different approaches to Spinal Neuromodulation? This mini-summit is a deep dive into spinal neuromodulation with live and pre-recorded presentations and a power panel of clinician's, experts and academics (and possibly an extra special guest) that we are running in September as fundraiser for Susan and Prof Edgerton's ImpossibleToPossible Lab for Cerebral Palsy > https://www.impossibletopossiblelab.org/cphome. There's nothing you need to do about this right now except be very excited 😉 More news to follow later.

4 - The Wired Collective Book Club

And this is the one you need to pay attention to TODAY

If you cast your mind back to the beginning of this Spotlight with Susan, you'll remember she recommended a book on neuroscience that we all needed to read in order to fully grasp the brain-spine connection/collaboration.

Well it kicks off next week, and yes, you’re on the guest list!

If you join this bookclub, you can expect to join your fellow neuroscience nerds in carving out a space where curiosity runs wild, clinical wisdom matters as much as the latest paper, and you belong (whether you read the whole book or just a chapter!).

What’s the Plan?

  • We’re diving into The Brain in Motion: From Microcircuits to Global Brain Function by Sten Grillner — a book that doesn’t just talk about movement, but makes you feel the electricity of why movement matters.
  • Every week for 7 weeks, we’ll rally for 1 brilliant hour to unpack a new chapter (we all know the real learning happens when book smarts meet the raw stuff of clinical practice.)

We're going to have a bit of fun with this so expect

  • Playful arrival polls (“Are you feeling more ‘forebrain’ or ‘spinal circuit’ today?”) — because science can be serious and silly.
  • Small group breakouts: dig into the real-world moments when neuroscience pops up in your therapy room (or in your own awkward attempts at pickleball).
  • Micro-challenges — like spotting a central pattern generator in action during your next session and reporting back with the good, the bad, or the “wait, is that what that was?”.
  • The “Analogy Challenge” thread, because there's no better way to understand and explain things than a good analogy right?

Why Should You Show Up?

Because our work demands more than playing it safe or going through the motions. Grillner gets into the guts of why our clients move the way they do (and why they can’t) — so you’ll walk away every week with:

  • Fresh insights you can test in-session right away
  • A place to muse on messy, inconvenient, and bold questions
  • A community where you can be honest about the “I have no idea” moments

You don’t need permission to join, or a secret degree in neuroanatomy. What you need is what you already have: curiosity, determination, and a deep belief that our kids deserve every bit of what science, shared experience, and shared insights can offer.

RSVP (Officially, or Just Turn Up)

Ready to nerd out, get challenged?

Check out the dates and times - Session 1 and Session 2 will each cover the same chapter but just offer a different time to accommodate times zones > https://bookme.name/wiredOnDevelopment

psst... when you grab your seat, you'll also get the full book to download for free (no copyright laws broken I promise!)

See you inside,

Mindy

P.S. Whether you're the diligent A-type personality who reads ahead or the other one, you know whose just scrambling to keep your head above water but still here and still doing it, you’re so welcome. All of you — the fired-up, the passionately overwhelmed, the quietly curious. We all have something to contribute, one conversation at a time.
