About a month ago, I attended a workshop in Port Harcourt on digital cybercrime reportage which was very educating and fulfilling as well.

But this particular event caught my attention till date.

The last speaker for the workshop told us about how she got her first job as an On-air personality.

She said she wasn't particularly an A1 or a front seat student but she never joked with self-development.

She was, as a matter of fact, very poor with writing news related stories or feature articles which is important for anyone in the media field to know, so she kept practising, hoping she gets better.

Fast forward to after NYSC, she had gained a considerable mastery on this niche and now it was time to hit the labor market.

A startup media outlet she had applied to invited her for an interview which, of course, made her anxious but she made a resolution to stand out.

Eager to know what she did differently?

She took note of every area their radio frequency couldn't reach and used it to capture their attention during her interview.

But see what was more peculiar!

While every other person applied to be an OAP, she applied to be both an OAP and a news editor.

If you're in the media field, you would know how saturated the OAP field is. Everyone wants to talk and be seen on radio/TV but not even a two/third number wants to do anything reporting/editing or anything that has to do with writing.

So whilst a lot of persons were turned down, her strategy worked as she got the job as an editor who is also now one of their key TV presenters.

This is where I am driving at. Putting your eggs in one basket especially a basket everyone is struggling to own is quite risky.

Best thing to do always is have a plan B that complements your plan A which can also set you uniquely apart from others.

One of that plan B is Email marketing.

These days, email marketing is a major tool of marketing brands leverage on to retain clients. This also means that they are always in need of experts in this field.

Now imagine applying for a job in one of such brands and email marketing is part of your resume. What do you think?
