Coach ,

If you’re like me, as a track coach you’ve took interest the NFL Combine on TV last month and you’ve been following the drama on social media. It appears that the average 40 yard dash times have significantly improved which has led to rumors of timing system errors, turf improvements, and shoe design benefits.

While these all are worth investigating, the reality seems to be that coaches have found ways to better improve their athletes and clients speed.

David Montgomery ran 4.64 at his pro day combine back in 2019. This run likely cost him millions of dollars as he dropped into the 3rd round before being selected by the Chicago Bears. After his rookie season Montgomery reached out to Chris Korfist and began training with the Sprint Coach. Korfist credits one drill for addressing David’s biggest weaknesses.

Drill to Improve David Montgomery

There are two variations of this key exercise

  1. Bent Knee
  2. Straight Leg

Understanding when and why to use each one to address is paramount to sprint success. In this clip Chris Korfist explains the uses of both variations and why he applies the exercise when he does.
