Track and Field Community,

Two opportunities to learn from some of the best coaches have opened up with coaching clinics going virtual.

Every summer Louisiana and Texas each hold their clinics which many outside of those states do not attend. However, this year anyone can attend virtually, which opens up an incredible chance to see coaches who many don’t get a chance to see.

As a pole-vaulter for The University of Texas and Oklahoma State University, I have met and learned from some of the best coaches and athletes in track & field. That being said, I don’t ever pass an opportunity where I can learn or gain even the slightest advantage. This is one of those opportunities.

The Texas High School Coaches Association is the biggest state clinic in the country and draws top names. Their line-up of coaches presenting is literally jaw-dropping, covering almost every sport that you can think of.

A Texas clinic wouldn’t be anything without the Men’s Coach of the Year and National Champions, Head Coach Wes Kittley of Texas Tech University, speaking on Fitting Weightroom with your Running Workouts. It has been exciting to see the athletes Coach Kittley produces, from 257 First-Team All-Americans to 13 Olympians.

The track and field coaches speaking does not stop there…

Featuring notable names such as:

Tony Holler, Winner of 3 IHSA State Track Championships and 14 “Coach Of The Year” Awards - Feed the Cats: Off-season Speed

Christian Korfist, Speed Coach - The Feet: Most Under-coached Yet Most Critical Factor in Speed and Injury Prevention

Matt Stewart, West Texas A&M - Staples of West TX A&M Sprint/Hurdle Program

In addition, if you are looking to improve what you do as a head coach or become a head coach someday, you won't want to miss the THSCA Head Coach Academy Talks.

Louisiana High School Coaches Association also does an outstanding job with their yearly coaches clinic and this year’s is virtual and open to the entire country as well. Running July 20-23, their line-up is top-notch!

In my college career, I was fortunate to compete against the world’s best vaulter, Mondo Duplantis (6.18m / 20’ 3¼”) . So, I am definitely excited to learn from his coach/father LSU Coach Greg Duplantis speaking on Pole Vault.

The expertise in track and field for Louisiana’s line-up doesn’t stop there, with multiple coaches covering many other events from many other schools. To list off a few:

Shawn Jackson, TCU - Jumps

Justin Wickard, Tier One Athletics - Short Hurdles

Benjamin Dalton, Baylor - Long Hurdle Training/Mechanics

Both Texas and Lousiana line-ups are packed with some of the most successful small college and high school coaches from their respective states.

These are two can’t-miss opportunities to get your track & field fix plus prepare for the upcoming 2020 season and 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. The best part … they overlap. They are both virtual so I can catch everything I want either live or in replay.

I will definitely be attending, will you?

Coach Scott
