New Year, New Risks

When I hit publish in 2014, I never imagined I’d be here six years later, and while I have struggled at times to get the words out, I’m still over the moon at having accomplished my dream. Now that we’re twenty days into 2021, I’m focused on looking forward and what my future writing career looks like. The first change I made (not a resolution, but an actual change) is that I am now a full-time writer with a sprinting partner who holds me accountable.

Another change I’m implementing is newsletter frequency. Instead of only checking in for new releases, I’m scheduling two a month. On the 5th will be book updates, Patreon exclusive story updates (paid subscription), the monthly contest, and other pertinent book news. On the 20th will be book updates, blog exclusive story updates (free serial), Q&A where I answer reader-submitted questions, and other pertinent book news.

I understand your time is precious, but I’m hoping you’ll stick it out for a month or two before you make any decisions about unsubscribing. I promise to do my very best to make it worth your while.

Thank you,

Jessie G

It Might Sound Cliché, my freebie from the Winter Wonderland giveaway, is going to be expanded and released on Amazon in February.

Reclaiming Pride, book 2 in the Kindred Stories, is up for pre-order and will be released on March 19, 2021. Matisse doesn’t believe in fairytales, but he may not have a choice when the only one who can stop the hunters is the Zenith who claims to love him.

I’ll be revisiting What Jordan Wants (finally), a blog serial I started then let go. A new chapter will be released on February 20th, but you can catch up on the first four chapters by visiting my website.

How do you publish your books?

ANSWER: I am a self-published author and always have been. In the beginning, I was terrified to query for an agent or publisher, so I learned how to do it myself. When I put together my team (editor, beta readers, cover artist, etc.) and knew I could put out a polished product, I decided I like maintaining control over my work. And every time I get the itch to see if a publisher would take a chance on my work, I’d see horror stories of a publisher screwing over their authors. It’s scary, and at this point in my life, a drama I can’t afford. Maybe if one of the top 5 came knocking, I’d consider (read: jump for joy), but until then, I own all the risk and the reward.
