Worst Year Ever

Hi,

This is my last newsletter of the year. I hope you enjoy it, and many thanks for reading my nonsense this year.

Assessing 2022

The annual review is an activity that many people swear by.

They look back at all the good times they had that year, all the bad, how maybe they could have done things better. It helps them think about their priorities and plans for the following year.

I don't usually do them because I'm a layabout. But just for you, I will list a few things. (Nothing too personal, don't worry - I don't want you to feel like a voyeur.)

What went well:

  • Had a daughter! 🥰
  • Quit a toxic workplace
  • Holiday in Split, Croatia
  • Holiday in Oslo, Norway
  • Went on a cold exposure retreat
  • Stayed in Bierbrze National Park
  • Started two newsletters
  • Published an ebook
  • Went to the cinema for the first time in 3 years
  • Saw friends after a long time of COVID separation
  • Ate a lot of good food

What went badly:

  • Gave my son COVID 😥
  • My shoulder fell apart more and more
  • Lost loved ones
  • Doc said I have early onset osteoarthritis

What I could have done better:

  • Quit with a stronger back-up plan...
  • Done more stretches, ideally everyday
  • Cut down on sugary foods
  • Spent more time with loved ones
  • Figured out how to look after a child and work at the same time 😅

Aaaaannnd that last bullet point is why I have to end this annual review here, without going into the planning bit just yet. Let's call this a first draft, as well as something to possibly make you think about your own year.

If you're interested in the annual review process and how to make the most of it, I'd recommend this video which I watched last year and proceeded not to follow at all:

Podcast episode of the week

So was 2022 good to you? Even if you think it was tough, it wasn't that bad on the face of things.

I can say this only because I've listened to this Radiolab episode about the actual worst year humanity has ever faced. And no, it was not 2020 with all that COVID stuff.

That was easy in comparison.

That's that. See you in 2023!
