Making Ducks Eat Pie

Hi,

I have been sliding into Olio's DMs again, as well as eBay this week. The online world of decluttering is still quite fascinating to me. I have heard Facebook Marketplace is also surprisingly good due to ease of use.

I will probably let you know how my experiments go in a future newsletter as I work my way through an endless pile of stuff - but this week, I want to talk briefly about AI jobs.

How you will be using AI for fun & profit

Seeing as "AI prompter" or "synthesis engine optimisation" is fast becoming an employable skill, I feel like I have to randomly try putting phrases into AI image generators to see what happens. (You may have seen me make them for these blog posts here and here.)

But if you don't know what that paragraph means, here's a question for you:

Have you noticed how some people are really quick at Googling stuff and finding what they need? And how some people are just really bad at using Google?

Well it's because you have to think about how you phrase questions for Google.

Google has gotten better at understanding us all over the years, admittedly, but soon it won't matter. The rise of AI synthesis engines is creating a new demand for how to make the best of these new tools instead. And it's apparently going to finally put a dent in Google's search monopoly.

A new word in the dictionary for "AI Googling"

AI search engines, or synthesis engines, may well become more attractive than Google because they give you immediate answers instead of a selection of pages from the Internet. They write what you want to know for you, directly to you. You can even ask them to explain something to you like you're 5 years old.

One of the old-school tech names is taking advantage of all this. After over a decade of people laughing at Bing, reactions might actually change. Microsoft's search engine is integrated by default into Windows machines all over the world. The fact that people try not to use it despite it being plastered all over their machine just goes to show how much people prefer using Google.

But in a couple of months, ChatGPT is going to become part of Microsoft's Bing search engine. It sounds weird but "Binging" might become a thing if Microsoft's AI gamble pays off.

I won't be Binging things... will I?

There are guides on how to write prompts for the various AI tools out there (none for the future Bing yet, obviously) and frankly these are skills that people are going to want.

This is what we will all be using these AI generators for:

  • To quickly create graphics and text for articles, magazines and advertisements
  • To summarise anything you have to read
  • To explain any difficult concept in a simple way so you don't feel stupid anymore
  • To write code for you so you can pretend to be a web developer
  • To write scripts for short videos, podcasts, even films and courses
  • To make a slideshow or even animate those scripts they just made for you
  • To write clever posts for your account on social media to impress your friends
  • To write poetry in any style you can name
  • To write whole books for you if you're patient enough
  • To write whole marketing plans for that book you just made it write
  • To give you holiday ideas, even plan your entire trip for you
  • To suggest books or movies you might like
  • To create a bespoke diet plan just for you in seconds

Keeping these endless impossibilities in mind, all this food for thought, I did this:

"a sad duck eats a duck pie"

This week, I made these haunting images in Midjourney using the prompt "a sad duck eats a duck pie".

Enjoy.

Look at that last one. Look at his face. You can feel his pain.

Thanks for reading. Have a great week and do randomly find many coins on the pavement.
