Stay Connected When Disaster Strikes
Emergencies can disrupt normal communication channels, making it crucial to have a solid plan in place. This week, we’ll focus on creating an emergency communication plan so you can stay in touch with loved ones and coordinate during a crisis.
Week Seven Focus: Develop an Emergency Communication Plan.
- Task: Establish multiple ways to communicate during an emergency, such as text, email, and radio. Designate an out-of-town contact person and create a family emergency contact list.
- Tip: Identify alternative meeting locations in case of evacuation and practice your plan with family members to ensure everyone knows what to do.

Have you ever heard of the ARRL? You can get your ham radio license. The Technician class license is the entry-level license of choice for most new ham radio operators. To earn the Technician license, you need to pass a 35 question examination. The test covers basic radio theory, FCC regulations, and basic operating practices. The license allows you to access the very popular 2-meter band.
The cost of the exam is $15. You can find a testing center through the ARRL Website.
