Whatâs Going On With Me?
Last week I was part of a pitch contest at the National Women Show in Ottawa. If you havenât been, I highly recommend you check it out. There are some hidden gems (vendors), loot bags and a mini food fest! For those of you who donât know what a pitch contest is, it is like Dragonâs Den or Shark Tank (US version), where people pitch their business or idea to a set of judges. In Dragonâs Den and Shark Tank, the participants are trying to get funding for their projects. On the pitch I was part of there was a prize of $2000. I was a bit of a nervous wreck and practiced several times. We had 2 minutes to talk about our idea. At first, I thought 2 minutes was a long time! Then, while I gathered all the info, I thought, 2 minutes is not nearly enough time for me to talk about my idea! My pitch was about a new program I wanted to develop to help people who want to change careers and think itâs too late. My name was called to come on stage. The MC told me she would raise her hand at the 1-minute 45 seconds mark. I started my spiel when all of a sudden, the intercom at the show made a loud announcement. In my mind I was thinking, the show must go on and continue talking, but I just couldnât think. So I stopped and the MC said empathically, Let me start the timer again. Phew, that was close. I did not let it faze me. When she raised her hand, I felt I hadn't said everything I wanted to say. The judges loved the enthusiasm and passion that I conveyed, however, one said she was not sure of the result that my program would produce. I thought to myself, maybe thatâs the missing link when I talk about my program. What is the result people will get from signing up? Although I thought it was evident, I realized it was evident to me, but possibly not to my audience. Clarity is the key to everything. Maybe, I should have ended with: âFollowing my program, you will find employment in the new career of your choice.â What do you think? Let me know, in the comments below

Mini Coaching Tips
Making the decision to change careers can take you out of your comfort zone, where itâs very easy, comfortable and familiar. Fear and not knowing what to do next can often overwhelm us. The trick is to do one little step at a time. Here are 3 you can do now to get you started.
1. Take a personality test to identify your strengths and weaknesses. Here are 2 that are free, and it only takes about 10 minutes to do.
2. List all the transferable skills that you have like adaptability, resilience, collaboration and emotional intelligence and find a concrete example for each.
3. Take an inventory of all your accomplishments.
I hope you like this new format, I will be sending it out every 2 weeks. Would love to hear your feedback, simply reply to this e-mail.
