Everything is relative

Oct 12, 2022 11:47 am

I recently had 4 days of bad headache in a row.

I would wake up with the migraine, take a pill, wait for the headache to subside and only then start my day.

Sometimes a pill works fast, sometimes not.

Sometimes not at all.

But the morning I wake without the headache is the best morning ever. Even if the weather is not so good, and the war still going on, I feel exuberant and lucky.

Everything is relative.

That's the phrase in English that means все пізнається в порівнянні.

If you translate the Ukrainian phrase word-for-word (everything is known in comparison), native speakers will understand your words, but the message might escape them.

Speaking good English is not just translating the words from your head, one by one. It's finding the word or phrase that expresses what you want to say the best.

This is an English phrase that means the same as we say in Ukrainian,

You can find more about this and other phrases that will help you masterfully compare things in English in the blog post Все пізнається в порівнянні, або як Як майстерно порівнювати англійською (in Ukrainian).

Have a great day,

Tania.
