Do you know your current level of English?

Hi there,

This weekend I've updated a level test on my website. The previous one had 50 questions, and all of them were aimed only at checking your vocabulary and grammar.

In the new quiz, there are only 24 questions - shouldn't take you more than 15 (probably less) to complete.

And most questions are about how well you understand the situation and can respond to it.

Why it's important:

Learning English = training to interact with other people in English. But not all level tests check your ability to interact.

One of the main differences from a lot of other tests is that you'll check your listening comprehension and ability to respond naturally to what you hear.

The other considerable difference is that the questions and answers are like a mini-dialogue, where you have to choose the best answer.

Even though most options are grammatically and lexically correct, they are wrong because they might be

  • inappropriate (rude)
  • because they don't sound natural (more like you translated them from your native language)
  • you misunderstood the situation (what they are telling/asking you).

It's my first attempt at creating a level quiz, so not everything might be working 100% correct. At the moment, after completing the quiz, you'll get the result on the next screen. You will have an option to read what you should be able to do at this level.

If you read a description and think that this is not your level, tell me what things from the list you can't actually do. I'll try to give you tips on how to improve that aspect of your English.

Also, you'll receive an email with your level + questions and your answers (for future reference). If you're my student, we can discuss your answers at class. If not, feel free to ask me questions about your results via email.

Check my level

Good luck with the quiz,

Tania.
