Mistake or opportunity?

Nov 10, 2022 10:00 am

On one of my morning walks, I decided to pop into the supermarket to buy some bread and cat food.

When I was near the cash register, I found out that I left my wallet at home 🤷‍♀️

I felt embarrassed.

I wasn't sure what to do.

I asked the cashier to keep my bag somewhere close by, because I was going to come back and pay for it in 15 minutes (after I got home and grabbed my wallet).

I left the store and was about halfway home when I realized I had my phone. And phone can be used to make payments.

I remember trying it once, but it wasn't set up correctly, so it didn't work. So I didn't use it after that first failure.

So now I was standing in the middle of the alley torn between 2 choices:

  1. Should I go home and get my wallet with a "real" credit card to pay for sure
  2. Should I return to the supermarket and try paying with my phone, but without the guarantee that it would work?

As I decided on one option, and then the opposite, I was walking to-and-fro.

It must have looked funny from the outside 😅

Anyway, I decided to risk it.

But to boost my chances, I reviewed the settings in the "Google Pay" app making sure that I have don’t use expired cards, and all the options were correct.

I returned to the register, reminded the cashier about my bag, and she let me use my phone.

It went without a hitch.

I felt great: not only did I save time, but I also had proof that this method works and I don't have to carry my wallet anymore.

So, remember:

  • Sometimes what you think is a mistake or failure is actually an opportunity.
  • When thinking about doing something challenging, prepare.

I'm planning to offer a short free training about handling mistakes and getting rid of them. Are you interested?

Have a great day, and talk soon,

Tania.
